About Us
Everyone can raise readers.
Raise Readers was born in 2024 from a simple observation: there are a lot of people who care deeply about literacy (parents, volunteers, after-school staff, and educators) but don't know where to start. That's the gap we fill. We're a team of certified learning and development professionals, literacy specialists, teachers, family trainers, and people who care, and we turn the science of reading into practical, bilingual workshops that give the adults in a child's life the confidence and tools to help them read.
Partnering with schools, non-profits, libraries, districts, and County Offices of Education across California, we help communities move from caring about literacy to acting on it, one family, one classroom, and one reader at a time.

Our Founder's Story
During his tenure leading district partnerships and literacy initiatives for Children's Publishing giant Scholastic Books, Wes Baker noticed a concerning trend. Beyond supplying books, how are we actually empowering parents to support their children with literacy?
Educators and administrators had the knowledge but were stretched to capacity. Family Liaisons had the passion but needed more content and experience to draw from. One day, Wes intervened by hosting a free family literacy night for one of his school partners. From there, word began to spread among Bay Area schools that there was an engaging facilitator who can teach your parents how to support literacy at home and Raise Readers was born.
